If you’ve been spending too much time in the sun, you probably have some pigmentation issues. Dark spots are usually caused by sun damage from UVA rays. Damage often occurs early in life and doesn’t manifest until you get older. Brown spots are unsightly, but they are treatable. Call us today and learn more about your treatment options.

THE MANY TYPES OF BROWN SPOTS

Brown spots have many names, but most share a common cause: excessive sun exposure. Freckles, age spots, sun spots, melasma, hyperpigmentation, brown spots, etc. are all pigmentation problems. If you have any of these conditions, call us and ask about brown spot treatment. These brown spots are caused by the body producing excess melanin due to sun damage.

WHAT ARE MY TREATMENT OPTIONS?

If you have brown spots, the first goal in your treatment should be stopping the sun damage. If you’ve had bad sun practices in the past, make changes and commit to doing better. Wear sunscreen daily (we have a wide range of sun protection products we’d be happy to recommend). Changing your habits will help your treatment results to last and will help you to avoid future sun damage.

Here are some treatment options we may recommend:

  • Cryotherapy: Cryotherapy involves freezing the affected skin often using liquid nitrogen. This treatment is very safe and highly effective for treating brown spots. This procedure requires no downtime, but your brown spots may look worse before they get better. Your brown spot should fall off and disappear within two weeks.
  • Chemical Peels: Chemical peels are another option for treating brown spots. This treatment uses a chemical solution to slough off the outermost layers of skin. Many chemical peels require no downtime, but some stronger, deeper peels may need a short recovery period.
  • Microdermabrasion: Microdermabrasion manually exfoliates the outer layers of skin using a specialized device. While not as common for treating brown spots as cryotherapy, it can be a very effective option for some patients.
  • Laser and Light Treatments: For some of our patients, laser and light treatments are the most effective option for treating brown spots. We use IPL (intense pulsed light), Pearl and Pearl Fractional lasers and Q-Switch.

Call us today and schedule your appointment. Soon, your brown spots will be nothing more than a memory.
