This rejuvenating procedure, known as microneedling, is a method of introducing injury into the skin’s dermal and epidermal junction triggering a release of growth factors, new collagen, and elastin. All skin types can be treated to address an array of possible concerns. Typically a series of 3-6 treatments are recommended with treatments usually spaced in 4-week intervals.
Typically a 2-hour appointment is scheduled for a Microneedling procedure. This allows for the aesthetician’s pre-procedure preparation, such as cleansing the patient’s skin and placing a topical numbing agent for 30 minutes prior to the actual procedure.
During the procedure, the aesthetician will run a device with 36 micro needles across the skin. This technique will create micro channels inducing a controlled injury, thereby naturally stimulating collagen, giving way to healthier, younger looking skin.
Microneedling is considered a treatment with no downtime. Immediately following the procedure, you can expect your skin to look moderately red. The aesthetician will recommend a skincare regimen for you to follow for a week after your treatment. This will help with any redness, dryness, or possible flaking in the days following the procedure.
Most commonly, patients report seeing positive changes in the skin 1-2 weeks after their first treatment. Individual results vary depending on individual skin health.
Microneedling is a safe and controlled procedure. It can only be administered by skilled, fully-trained, and experienced professionals. Our medically-trained staff at MediSpa at Knoxville Dermatology Group are among Tennessee’s most experienced and respected in the field of dermatology and cosmetics.
