Juvéderm® is a hyaluronic acid injectable dermal filler offered as an anti-aging treatment at Medi-Spa at Knoxville Dermatology Group. As our bodies produce less hyaluronic acid during the aging process, we lose volume in the face. Facial fillers like Juvéderm® can replace some of that volume, subtly filling in the areas where lines, wrinkles, and folds have formed.
Juvéderm® is gel that is similar to Restylane and Perlane. It uses a technology called HYLACROSS™ that makes it especially smooth and predictable in the way that it flows into the skin. Other hyaluronic acid fillers are a bit more granular in consistency, and Juvéderm is very close to the consistency of facial tissue.
These differing properties between the various fillers provide your medically trained injectors at Medi-Spa at Knoxville Dermatology Group with several options so that each area you want to treat can be injected with the product that will bring you the best outcome.
With our in-depth knowledge of facial anatomy and experience with several types of injectable fillers, we can determine which dermal filler(s) are optimal for you in order to create a subtle, natural-looking result. This is often achieved by layering the injectables where needed.
Juvéderm®can also be used to volumize the lips.
Our expert injectors will thoroughly examine your face and the condition of your skin. They will then discuss your options with you so that you understand fully what they recommend to achieve your desired result. They may suggest more than one cosmetic filler or injectable, including Botox®, Restylane®, Perlane, Sculptra®, or Radiesse®.
Juvéderm® injections can include Lidocaine – a mild anesthetic – if you prefer, to numb the treated areas. If you choose the Lidocaine, your entire treatment will include 15-20 minutes of numbing and 15 minutes of injections. If you are allergic to Lidocaine, Juvederm® is also available without it.
The results of one Juvéderm® treatment can last up to a full year. Your results will appear immediately, and you can return to your normal activities the same day. We will advise that you avoid strenuous exercise for a couple of days, however.
You can expect some minor redness, bruising, swelling, and tenderness, but this should last for no more than 3 days. You can prevent swelling by applying ice to the injection areas for the first few hours and elevating your head with a pillow for the first two nights.
We can provide make-up application before you leave our offices in order to cover any effects from the injections.
Juvéderm® injections are plant-based and derived from a sugar that is naturally produced in your body. For this reason, an allergy test is not necessary.
